Overview
Experience one of Table Mountain’s most peaceful and scenic routes on this guided circular hike from Constantia Nek. This trail offers a steady climb through forest, wide open fynbos views, and the unique opportunity to explore five of the mountain’s historic reservoirs. It’s a rewarding, moderate outing ideal for hikers who enjoy a mix of history, nature, and quieter mountain paths.
What to Expect
We begin at Constantia Nek, easing into the day with a comfortable ascent up the Jeep Track. As we climb, the Constantia Valley slowly opens behind us and the forest gives way to expansive fynbos slopes.
Reaching the Back Table, we enter a serene high-mountain landscape dotted with the five iconic dams:
De Villiers Dam – tranquil and reflective, a gentle introduction to the plateau.
Alexandra Dam – a smaller, tucked-away reservoir just above De Villiers.
Victoria Dam – known for its elegant curved wall and quiet setting.
Woodhead Dam – one of the largest and most historic, with striking early stonework.
Hely-Hutchinson Dam – the highest, wildest, and often the most atmospheric of them all.
I’ll guide you along the loop linking these dams, stopping at the best viewpoints, sharing mountain history, and pointing out unique fynbos species along the way.
We end with a relaxed descent down the same Jeep Track—a comfortable finish with wide valley views.
